'BlacKkKlansman' NYC Film Premier

Spike Lee's new movie, "BlacKkKlansman" tells the true story of Ron Stallworth, the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department. Laura Harrier, who stars in the film, hit the red carpet for its NYC premiere.

Actresses Bresha Webb and Tiffany Haddish are two of many celebrities who struck a pose for cameras at the premiere, which took place in Brooklyn at the BAM Harvey Theatre.

NPR Music's Turning The Tables Celebration

Turning The Tables, a series launched by NPR Music, held a special night of performances and conversation showcasing some of today's most dynamic female musicians, including a performance of "I Really Like You" by Carly Rae Jepsen.

"I always loved singing. I came to singing through poetry. I think it wasn't until I started writing poetry that I realized that I can write from my experience," says Jamila Woods, one of the performers at NYC's Damrosch Park. After the free show and panel discussion, Woods greeted excited female fans in the audience.
