NEW YORK CITY — A viral schmear against New York City's bagels prompted a cutting response from none other than Mayor Bill de Blasio.

New Yorkers united Monday to declare a New York Times story — provocatively titled "The Best Bagels Are in California (Sorry, New York)" — full of holes.

Twitter feeds boiled over with pro-New York bagel messages. And then a prominent New Yorker with gave the Twitterverse more to chew on.

"Yeah, absolutely not," de Blasio tweeted in response to the story.

De Blasio's message is his return to the bagel discourse a year after his hot take on New York City bagels flopped.

Hizzoner infamously declared a toasted whole wheat bagel from Bagel Store in Park Slope his preferred order.

What elevated it to full-on "Toastgate" is best summed up by Patch's story at the time: "Mayor Bill de Blasio claimed to love toasted bagels at a Park Slope bagel store that does. Not. Toast."

Based on de Blasio's Twitter comments, his toasty take on the New York Times story went over slightly — though not completely — better.

"I never thought I’d agree with you about anything, Bill, but I’m with you on this one," wrote @noisegroove.

"Figures we would lose the title under your leadership," wrote @MooseToffa.
