Local parents only have one more day to help their kids rank top school choices for the upcoming 2017-18 school year.

NEW YORK CITY, NY — Parents have one more day to help their children and teens finish their applications for middle school and high school — the deadline is Thursday, Dec. 1.
Students in the New York City public school system must rank their choices for middle school and high school for the following year.
Fifth graders can pick up applications at their elementary schools or at a family welcome center, according to the city's Department of Education website. Students can rank up to 12 programs, according to the DOE.

For eighth graders or first-time ninth graders, they have more than 400 high schools and over 700 programs to choose from, but like the middle schoolers, they can only rank up to 12 programs, according to the DOE's website. The deadline for the first round of applications is Thursday. Those students who do not receive an offer in the first round can apply to programs with availability in March 2017 during round two.
