Fort Greene Man Found Dead In Brownstone Fire Was Murdered: Cops
Police are investigating the Adelphi Street fire as a homicide, the NYPD announced Tuesday morning.
NEW YORK CITY — A Fort Greene man, known for the kindness he showed hungry neighbors and local children, was murdered in his home, police have ruled.
The death of the man firefighters found blaze on Adelphi Street — between Willoughby and DeKalb avenues about 3:20 a.m. Monday morning — was ruled a homicide, police announced Tuesday morning.
Police did not release the name or age of the man, but the New York Times identified him as L. Antonio Litman, a philanthropist known for his charity that provided meals and college scholarships to needy families, and the hover boards he bought for the neighborhood's children at Christmas.

Litman was on the board of the State University of New York’s Maritime Museum, founded the charitable organization Virginia's House of Hope and made his fortune with the shipping company International Registries, according to the Daily News.
Firefighters found his body, which showed evidence of trauma, in the lobby after putting out the fire, police said.
