Getting Puppyfied: A Screening of 'Boundaries'

Photographer Daniela Kirsch shares her exclusive perspective from the red carpet.

Daniela Kirsch is co-founder of NameFace — a facial recognition application that can identify celebrities in photographs. Through her technical and creative expertise, Kirsch has changed the entertainment industry, and she knows more than just a thing or two about photographing A-list events.

Last night, she photographed the star-studded red carpet at the screening of Sony Pictures Classics' 'Boundaries', and took Patch along for the ride. Take look through her experience shooting below!

Tonight is Cinema Society. It's the most exclusive entertainment event series in New York City. This is the place where celebrities hang and mingle while watching a movie and enjoying food and drinks at the afterparty.

Only a handful of photographers is allowed inside. I'm one of them.

I say hello to Dia. "Did you get any sleep?", I ask.
"Not much."
We worked the Tony Awards yesterday.

6:30 p.m.

Downstairs at the Roxy Hotel movie theater, I see one of the photographers looking frustrated.
"What's up?"
"I'm trying to figure out what to do with this red boudoir light here," he says.
"Haven't you shot here before?"
"Not since it has been remade into a brothel."

6:54 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the North Shore Animal League, and they brought puppies. A lot of them. I'm excited. It's going to be cute.
"What type of dog is this?" I ask.
"I don't know." says the animal league lady while Vera Farmiga is posing.
"What's his name?" I try again.
"Whatever race and name you want it to be."
That's what I like about America!

7:03 p.m.
Beth Stern is working it. The whole puppy thing looks awesome on her, and she knows it. We shoot shoot shoot. She kisses the doggy, hugs it and cuddles it and more kissing.

After a while:
"Can I get another one, this one is tired."
The animal league lady replaces the puppy. And the kissing, hugging, and cuddling start all over.

7:16 p.m.
Peter Fonda

"Celebrities are not enough anymore. Now we need props" says one of the photographers and points to the puppies.
Everything gets better by adding baby animals, wouldn't you agree?

7:21 p.m.
Shana Feste, Christopher Plummer, Vera Farmiga and Thomas Bernard.
More props, please!

7:26 p.m.

Patrick Stewart with his wife Sunny Ozell.
"You need to get puppyfied!" the photographers say to Patrick Stewart, and somebody hands him over a puppy.

7:31 p.m.

Guest and Laura Michelle Kelly
"It's puppy love!" the photographers shout while the puppies start licking each other.

7:43 p.m.
Tonight, we are chilled photographers. We shoot one at a time, one after another. We are not the screaming, fighting hot mess we were yesterday at the Tonys.
Jim snaps away then directs the celebs to the next lens: "And now for my friend here."
"I'm not your friend!!!!"
"Ok, then please for that guy that often stands next to me..." says Jim.
Ah, there is the underlying competitiveness again.

7:52 p.m.
The movie starts. The photographers split up and start editing photos. We never get to see the movie, what a shame

8:48 p.m.
The after party is at the Roxy Hotel Penthouse. I show Dia the upstairs deck and we Instagram away.

9:18 p.m.
The photographers show each other photos of their children.
"Wow! Look how rich the colors are in these! How did you do that?"
I crack up laughing. Of course, it's not about the kids but the photos, what was I thinking?

9:31 p.m.

No more puppies. Peter Fonda is cuddling his wife.

I roam around and chitchat.
"I don't really care about the younger celebs," a guest says, "but Peter Fonda! Can you believe Peter Fonda is downstairs?!" She is a first timer at Cinema Society. See you again soon!
