Harvey Weinstein Sentenced To 23 Years

NEW YORK CITY — Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was sentenced Wednesday to 23 years in prison after his conviction last month for rape and sexual assault, Manhattan District Attorny Cy Vance said.

Weinstein, 67, received the near maximum — he had faced between five to 25 years — when he was sentenced Wednesday morning in Manhattan Criminal Court.

A Manhattan jury found Weinstein guilty Feb. 24 of raping an actress in a Midtown hotel in 2013 and sexually assaulting a former production assistant at his Manhattan apartment in 2006, Vance said.

The jury did not find Weinstein guilty of the highest charge, predatory sexual assault, which hinged in part on the testimony of "Sopranos" actress Annabella Sciorra, who accused Weinstein of attacking her in 1993 or 1994.

Following his conviction, Weinstein was briefly hospitalized at Bellevue over heart health concerns, then was moved to an infirmary on Rikers Island.

Weinstein also faces charges in Los Angeles on allegations that he raped one woman and sexually assaulted another during Oscars week in 2013.

The Hollywood producer was first booked on rape charges in March 2018, about five months after the New York Times and New Yorker released groundbreaking reports detailing years of sexual misconduct accusations made by some of Hollywood's biggest stars.
