NEW YORK CITY — A fresh wave of stifling temperatures is expected to blanket New York City and bring the heat index beyond 100 degrees.

A heat advisory is in effect Tuesday from 11 a.m. to Wednesday at 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

“New York City is expecting dangerous heat and high humidity to return this week, and we encourage New Yorkers to take every necessary precaution to stay cool,” said John Scrivani, the city's emergency management commissioner, in a statement. “Use air-conditioning or go to one of the City’s cooling centers to beat the heat, and stay out of the sun as much as possible. With the help of our agency partners, elected officials and community organizations, the City has opened cooling centers if you don’t have an air conditioner at home."
