Hot Weather Makes Its Return for End of Work Week

The weather will be heating up again on Thursday and Friday as the first week in September comes to a close.

NEW YORK, NY — New Yorkers will have one more chance to give their air conditioners a workout before packing them up for the winter.

Temperatures are supposed to soar into the 90s again on Thursday and Friday after a week of cooler weather. The high for Thursday is forecast to be 89 degrees with a heat index reaching 94 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The relative humidity will sit at a damp 87 percent at 7 a.m., though it will decrease throughout the day.

Friday will be even worse, as the temperature reaches 92 degrees with a heat index of 96 at 4 p.m.

  • 7 a.m.: 72 degrees, 72 heat index, 87 percent relative humidity
  • 10 a.m.: 79 degrees, 79 heat index, 72 percent relative humidity
  • 1 p.m.: 87 degrees, 91 heat index, 55 percent relative humidity
  • 4 p.m.: 89 degrees, 94 heat index, 54 percent relative humidity
  • 7 p.m.: 85 degrees, 90 heat index, 63 percent relative humidity
  • 10 p.m.: 82 degrees, 86 heat index, 69 percent relative humidity

  • 7 a.m.: 76 degrees, 76 heat index, 82 percent relative humidity
  • 10 a.m.: 83 degrees, 87 heat index, 65 percent relative humidity

  • 4 p.m.: 92 degrees, 96 heat index, 44 percent relative humidity
  • 7 p.m.: 86 degrees, 89 heat index, 53 percent relative humidity

Ten days in August reached at least 89 degrees at Central Park, with the temperature hitting 90 everyday from Aug. 11-15. The hottest day in September so far has been 84 degrees.

Those looking for relief will find it beginning next week when high temperatures on Monday and Tuesday are forecast to be 79 and 80 degrees with low humidity.
