Macy's Will Close 100 Stores Nationwide

The department store has yet to announce which stores will be closing.

NEW YORK, NY — Macy's, which has its flagship store at 34th Street-Herald Square, has announced it will be closing around 100 stores nationwide by early 2017.

The company has yet to announce the 100 stores, saying it will do so "at a later date, once the company makes final decisions."

There are seven Macy's stores in New York City, including the flagship store.

  • Macy's Herald Square
  • Macy's Brooklyn Downtown
  • Macy's Kings Plaza
  • Macy's Queens — Rego Park
  • Macy's Flushing
  • Macy's Staten Island
  • Macy's Parkchester

They also have a location in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Macy's says it will focus its resources on its highest-performing stores while pouring more into "online shopping and mobile apps," according to the press release.

"Customers nearly everywhere in America will have easy access to Macy’s stores, with the additional convenience and increased functionality of our dynamic digital offering,” Macy's President Jeff Gennette said in the press release.

The employees at the closing retail stores will be offered jobs at nearby locations, "where possible," Macy's said.

In September, Macy's announced that it would be closing 40 locations.
