'Maiden' Film Premiere With Whoopi Goldberg And More: PHOTOS
'Maiden' is the new must-see documentary about the first all-female crew in the Whitbread Round the World Race of 1989.

Last night an excited crowd gathered at The Landmark Cinema in uptown Manhattan to attend the premiere of the new documentary "Maiden."
The film chronicles the adventures of Tracy Edwards, the legendary British sailor who entered the prestigious Whitbread Round the World yachting race in 1989 with the first ever all-female crew. Tracy's inspirational dream was opposed on all sides: her male competitors thought an all-women crew would never make it, the chauvinistic yachting press took bets on her failure, and potential sponsors rejected her. Nevertheless, Tracy refused to give up. She remortgaged her home and bought a secondhand boat, putting everything at risk just to ensure that the team made it to the start line.
Today, almost 30 years later, she brought her team to Manhattan to celebrate the documentary filmed by director Alex Holmes. Whoopi Goldberg, Carol Alt, Joanna Coles and many more stepped out to congratulate the team.
