Massive Fire In UES Skyscraper Injures 22 People: FDNY

NEW YORK CITY — A massive blaze ripped through an Upper East Side sky scraper and left 22 people injured Tuesday morning, the FDNY said.

The fire erupted on the 24th floor of 515 E. 72nd St., near York Avenue, just before 2 a.m., according to the FDNY.

More than 100 firefighters and medics rushed to quell the flames and pull people out of the building, the FDNY said.

Four firefighters and 18 civilians were injured in the blaze, the FDNY said.

The firefighters and 14 of the civilians suffered minor injuries, two civilians were seriously hurt and two others suffered life-threatening injuries, the FDNY said.

Eighteen patients were taken to either Cornell Medical Center or New York Presbyterian, according to the FDNY.

The fire was under control by 3:25 a.m., said the FDNY.
