THE BRONX — A brave mom was punched in the face as she protected her 8-year-old son from a stranger's vicious attack, police said.

The violent man lunged at the little boy on the Elder Avenue subway platform about 12:40 p.m. Dec. 23, according to police.

But the 33-year-old woman threw herself in front of her son and the man hit her instead, police said.

Police are still looking for the attacker, who fled the station, and released a photo of him Wednesday night.

The man, about 40 years old, was last seen wearing jeans, a gray hoodie, black bubble jacket and black sneakers.
