NEW YORK — The majority of New York voters would choose any Democrat over Donald Trump but still think the president will be re-elected, a new poll shows.

“While New Yorkers appear poised to give the Democrats their ninth consecutive presidential nod, they also overwhelmingly believe Trump is poised to win re-election to a second term,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

"A majority of voters from every demographic group think Trump will win, with the exception of Democrats ...and self-described liberals."

About 62 percent of New Yorkers believe Trump will win the 2020 presidential election, according to a Siena College Poll released Monday.

The pollsters conducted the survey from Feb. 16-20, calling 658 English-speaking New Yorkers registered to vote.

More than 80 percent of New York Republicans, 73 percent of independents and 48 percent of Democrats don't believe Trump can be beat, the study found.

Which may be why nearly half (45 percent) of New York Democrats said they'll pick the candidate with the best chance of defeating Trump, according to the poll.

One third said they think former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is most likely to take Trump down, 22 percent believe its Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and 16 percent said its former vice president Joe Biden.

"Not surprisingly, Bloomberg has the best chance according to older voters, with whom he scores higher on favorability, and Sanders has the best chance according to younger voters, who overwhelmingly view him favorably,” Greenberg said.

“This is more of a snapshot of Democrats than a pre-election poll since it is likely that South Carolina and Super Tuesday will significantly reduce the size of the field."

Despite New Yorkers' confidence in Bloomberg, Sanders has claimed the lead among New York Democrats, the poll found.

Sanders is polling at 25 percent, Bloomberg has 21 percent, Joe Biden 13 percent, Elizabeth Warren 11 percent and Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar both claimed 9 percent, the poll found.
