NASA Rocket Launch Canceled Once Again

The rocket launch was expected to light up the night sky with plumes of vapor clouds in brilliant colors.

UPDATE: The launch has been canceled once again because of cloud cover. The next chance for a launch will come Wednesday night.

NEW YORK, NY — A NASA rocket launch scheduled for Tuesday night is expected to light up the night sky over New York City with plumes of smoke in brilliant colors. Red, blue and green clouds will be visible along the East Coast, including throughout NYC's five boroughs, after the rocket is launched in Virginia, according to NASA.

The rocket will be visible between around 9:04 and 9:19 p.m. from New York to North Carolina, NASA officials said.

It will be launched from the Wallops Flight Facility, and is expected to release as much as 100 miles worth of colorful vapor clouds into the sky.

The launch was originally planned for Monday, but clouds obscured the viewing area, and the launch was rescheduled, NASA officials said. "The June 12 attempt was the sixth for this mission," they said. "Previous scrubs have been due to a variety of issues, such as high winds, clouds, and boats in the hazard area."

There's still a chance Tuesday's launch could also be canceled due to weather. But as of Tuesday afternoon, the nighttime forecast for the Wallops Flight Facility was relatively clear, with a few clouds and low winds.
