Natasha Lyonne, David Harbour At Netflix 'Russian Doll' Premiere

See highlights from Netflix's 'Russian Doll' premiere at the Metrograph with Natasha Lyonne, David Harbour, Amy Poehler and many more.

"Matryoshka!" I say. It's the Russian word for Russian stacking dolls. That's what we are here for at the Metrograph Cinema tonight. It's the premiere of the new Netflix show "Russian Doll" starring Natasha Lyonne, Chloe Sevigny, Charlie Barnett, Greta Lee and more.

"Matrrrrryoska!!" I try to roll my R in a Russian way, and it's not happening. "DddRRRRRR!"

The show is about a woman (Natasha Lyonne), who relives the same night over and over again. It's like Groundhog Day but a lot darker, edgier and takes place in downtown Manhattan.

5:45 p.m.
I arrive at the Metrograph Cinema on Ludlow Street in Chinatown. Technically, Ludlow street is not Chinatown anymore, but it sure smells like it.
"It always smells of fish here." says someone while we are all waiting outside to get in. It's pitch black dark. It's so dark; I can't see my hands. For some reason, the street lights in front of the Metrograph never work correctly. Maybe it's on purpose. In Manhattan, everything seems to be part of a handcrafted experience planned by a marketing expert. Nothing ever seems to be random, especially in my world of gigantic celebrity events meticulously arranged by herds of public relations teams.

The dark alley nevertheless fits the Metrograph. The cinema is known for independent films and out of the ordinary.

"I can't read the list," says the PR. "It's too dark!"

One of her colleagues turns on her cell phone flashlight, and the check-in starts.

6:32 p.m.
First on the carpet is writer Jocelyn Bioh.

6:34 p.m.
Taylor Schilling from 'Orange Is The New Black' is here!

6:35 p.m.
I'm in the second row standing on a stool. The ceiling is two inches above my head because I'm very tall (5'11) and the stool is very high. My feet barely fit on it. I'm a giant and a bigfoot (size 11). Let's just hope I don't fall.

Natasha Lyonne

6:37 p.m.
The first time I took photos of Natasha on a red carpet last year I thought: "Finally someone with wild hair!". And I know everything about wild hair because I've been suffering from it all my life. It's the type of hair that's like an animal with its own personality. No matter how long you spent straightening it with heat and tons of products it hops right back into its original state the moment you leave the house.

And the best solution is letting it be and rocking the wild mane. And that's what Natasha is doing, and it suits her well.

6:39 p.m.
Wait, is Natasha dating Fred Armisen? Yes, she is!

6:43 p.m.
Hello, Amy Poehler!

6:44 p.m.
Amy Poehler and Natasha Lyonne.

Chloë Sevigny

6:47 p.m.

I love the outfit.

6:48 p.m.
So, Russian dolls, right? In preparation for tonight, I watched the 'Russian Doll' trailer. Natasha's character in this new show gets caught up in the endless loop of one night that always ends with her death. The song 'Crimson and Clover' is on repeat blaring the lyrics 'over and over' over and over while Natasha gets more and more frustrated with reliving a party night over and over.

Greta Lee and Natasha Lyonne

6:49 p.m.
Some say there are only 50 tropes in story writing and they get used over and over again — just the tone changes. TVtropes.org lists, for example, the 'Alone-With-Prisoner Ploy' trope, the 'Abandoned Hospital Awakening', 'Everything Trying to Kill You' and the 'Bodyguard Crush' trope (my favorite). And of course, there is the 'Groundhog Day Loop' which needs the 'Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory' trope, meaning the character can remember what happened.
I'd like to be in the 'Bodyguard Crush' + 'Groundhog Day Loop'.

But then, everything that happens too often and too much in the same way drives anybody either crazy or gets boring. No matter if you are dating a bodyguard or a supermodel, or you are living on a beautiful island in the Caribbean drinking pina colada on the beach every day (I did that for a while) or sitting in a cubicle working an office job (will get dull very fast). It's always about escaping the loop.

Russian Doll and Groundhog Day Loop are a substitute for escaping the loop, and I just gave you the perfect excuse to go super crazy and do something totally irrational and irresponsible: I had to escape the loop!

Dascha Polanco
6:51 p.m.

7:01 p.m.

Rosie O'Donnell and Natasha Lyonne with Russian dolls!

Danielle Brooks

7:03 p.m.
I think the entire cast of "Orange Is The New Black" is here!

Laura Prepon

7:05 p.m.
"Are we done? I think we are done." says one of the photographers and starts packing up.
"We are not done yet! HELLBOY IS STILL COMING!" I shout enthusiastically.

"Hell, girl!" someone says.

7:06 p.m.
You guessed it, I have a new actor crush, and it's David Harbour who plays Hellboy in the new upcoming movie with the same name and the chain-smoking, cranky police officer Jim Hopper in "Stranger Things." He is a tall, handsome New Yorker and his Instagram is amazingly funny.

7:11 p.m.
"I was a fan before I became a photographer," a colleague tells me the other night.

"I fangirl so hard. Every time I take photos of a good-looking actor, I dig up every romantic scene he ever stared in and obsess over it for like two days. And then I move on to the next. I'm a very promiscuous fangirl."

"What you need is a boyfriend," she says.

"That is 100% correct." And I remember following this New York Times photographer around a street parade for hours last week just because his hands looked so manly.

I google 'creepy', and the first thing that comes up is 'How to not be creepy (with pictures)'. With pictures!
