New York City's Best High Schools: U.S. News And World Report Rankings For 2017

The definitive annual list of America's best high public high schools is out for this year. See if your kid's school is among the 76 in NYC.

NEW YORK, NY — It's that time of year again! That time when, just as the students of the NYC Schools system begin to feel summer's heat wiggle up from the asphalt and smell the first whiffs of freedom on the air, their helicopter parents have already begun obsessing over the following school year — wait lists, AP classes, extracurricular signups and, inevitably, school rankings.

Enter U.S. News and World Report, school ranker extraordinaire. Right on time to either puff or shatter a parent's seasonal pride with its annual master list of the nation's best public high schools and charter schools, based mostly on their state testing scores and college-prep prowess.

The rankings "include data on more than 22,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia," according to U.S. News & World Report. "Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college."
