NY, CA Governors Tell Trump: Our Fifth Of America Is Still On The Clean Power Plan
Cuomo and Brown released an adorable joint statement Tuesday — a foreshadowing, one hopes, of their eventual move toward joint secession.

ALBANY, NY — As the old adage goes, there's no love like the love between two bros who hate the same bro.
Case in point: New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and California Gov. Jerry Brown, who for years have acted almost wholly unconcerned with one another's existence (outside of the occasional dorky sports wager/publicity stunt). But now, with the same orange enemy threatening both their liberal legacies from D.C., these two kings of the coasts have been struck by the blushingest mutual bro crush since Barack met Biden.
In the face of threats from Washington, @JerryBrownGov and I reaffirm our commitment to exceed the targets of the EPA's Clean Power Plan.

In an adorable joint statement posted early Tuesday morning to both of their websites, Gov. Cuomo and Gov. Brown informed President Donald Trump — using the royal "we," of course — that no matter how far he rolls back the previous administration's Clean Power Plan, local governments in New York and California will keep enforcing the same regulations and shooting for the same greenhouse gas-reduction targets as they were before Trump decided to executive order America back into a state of 1970s-era climate change denial.

"New York and California lead the nation in ground-breaking policies to combat climate change," Cuomo and Brown co-bragged in their statement.
"Both states – which account for roughly 10 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States – have adopted advanced energy efficiency and renewable energy programs to meet and exceed the requirements of the Clean Power Plan," the governors wrote, "and have set some of the most aggressive greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in North America."

"With or without Washington, we will work with our partners throughout the world to aggressively fight climate change and protect our future," they wrote.
Cuomo and Brown then pointed out that with their powers combined, nearly one-fifth of America — and 20 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product — will remain immune to whatever "misguided" and "shocking" environmental policies Trump thinks up next.
"New York and California will continue to work closely together — and with other states — to help fill the void left by the federal government," the governors wrote as one.
At which point in the joint statement-writing process we can't help but imagine Cuomo and Brown, by now overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of their shared interests, spontaneously high-fived over FaceTime.
May their bro crush carry them — and the good people of New York and California — all the way to joint secession in the sunset.
