NYC City Council Hosts First Remote Meeting Amid Coronavirus

NEW YORK CITY — An old legislative body has learned a new trick and will be performing it remotely.

City Council will hold a virtual Stated meeting next Wednesday for the first time in its history, Speaker Corey Johnson announced.

"It isn't easy to get an 82 year-old legislative body up and running remotely for the first time in its history," said Johnson.

The public will be able to watch the meeting online on the City Council website on April 22. Information about the agenda was not immediately available.

Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr., Chair of the Democratic Conference, said, "This remote Stated meeting is symbolic of the amazing resilience of New Yorkers in this difficult moment."

"Our legislating, our representing the needs of our shared communities, is a key part of our work to protect the vulnerable and meet urgent needs."
