NYC Coronavirus Cases Jump To 62 Overnight, Mayor Says

Mayor Bill de Blasio said "more and more restrictions" were coming.

NEW YORK CITY — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in New York City jumped by nine to 62 overnight, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday

The mayor promised on CNN that "more and more restrictions" were likely as coronavirus spreads but that shutting down the subway, Broadway or schools would only come as a last resort.

“I don’t want to see Broadway go dark, the mayor said, "if we can avoid it."

The news comes a day after St. Patrick's Day parade organizers announced they'd postpone the event, initially scheduled for next Tuesday, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the City University of New York would transition to online learning.

The NYC Schools Closed By Coronavirus

There are more than 127,000 novel coronavirus cases confirmed worldwide with 4,717 deaths and 68,305 recoveries, recent data from Johns Hopkins University show.

The U.S. has the eighth highest number of cases per nation with 1,323, the university tracker shows.
