"Anyone who thinks about planning a large gathering," said de Blasio, who is planning July 4th fireworks, 'Is really taking a large chance."

More than 1,000 workers from the FDNY, Parks and Sheriff's departments, and Office of Special Enforcement will disperse large groups and hand out about 275,000 face coverings to unmasked people, de Blasio said.
The team will back up the NYPD, which the mayor instructed this week to amp up its enforcement and conduct arrests, handing out summons to New Yorkers who do not obey city rules, the mayor said.

Health Department data show COVID-19 continues to claim lives in New York City. New York City had lost 12,287 people confirmed to have COVID-19 and another 5,302 likely died from the virus as Wednesday, data show.
"We know we have not beaten this disease yet," said de Blasio. "I'm worried for New York."
This announcement comes after de Blasio spurred criticism for his zero tolerance message directed primarily at "the Jewish community" hours after crowds gathered to watch a military flyover.
"Anyone who thinks about planning a large gathering ... is really taking a large chance with their own health and with other's health," said de Blasio. "A large gathering will unquestionably lead to a loss of life."
De Blasio himself is planning a Macy's July 4th fireworks display.
