NYC Just Had One Of Its Warmest Winters, Forecasters Say

NEW YORK CITY — Last winter was among New York City's top 10 warmest and February was among the least snowy, according to the National Weather Service.

New York City saw its seventh warmest winter with temperatures averaging about 40 degrees from December through February, the NWS reported Sunday.

And with Central Park, La Guardia and John F. Kennedy airports recording a mere trace of snow in February, the final month of the meteorological season was among the least snowy, the NWS reported Sunday.

La Guardia and JFK had never seen less snow in February while Central Park saw its second least snowy February, forecasters said.

La Guardia last saw this low rate of snow in 2012 and JFK in 1998, according to forecast reports.

February's high temperatures made it the 7th warmest February ever recorded in Central Park (with a 40.1 degree average) and JFK (39.3 degree average) and the 10th warmest recorded at La Guardia with a 39.9 degree average.

And that February was part of an unusually warm winter in New York City with an average temperature of 39.2 in Central Park and at Laguardia and 38.7 at JFK, forecasters said.

The first week of March is predicted to keep New York City warm, with a high of 57 degrees predicted for Monday and near 60 Tuesday, until Saturday when we might get snow.

A chance of showers between 9pm and 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47. South wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tuesday
Showers likely, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night
A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 43. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph becoming west after midnight.

Wednesday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. West wind 9 to 14 mph.

Mostly clear, with a low around 37.

Thursday
Sunny, with a high near 51.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38.
