NYC Mayor Has Never Been Tested For Coronavirus, He Says

NEW YORK CITY — Among those New Yorkers who have never been tested for new coronavirus is Mayor Bill de Blasio.

"I haven’t been tested this whole time,” de Blasio said. "There’s not a regular testing protocol.”

De Blasio shared his own unknown diagnosis during his daily press briefing from City Hall, during which he announced another day of stagnating progress in the battle to contain COVID-19.

New York City public hospitals saw COVID-19 admittances increase to 78 Monday from 51 Sunday and intensive care unit admittances rose to 561 Monday from 550 Sunday, city data show.

The percentage of people testing positive for COVID-19 dropped to 13 percent Monday from 14 percent on Sunday.

New York City will not be ready to reopen until the three indicators show steady progress for at least 10 days, de Blasio has said.

"We need to see that number go down," de Blasio said. "And stay down."

De Blasio shared yet another troubling number: 82 New York City children are being treated for a potentially fatal toxic shock-like syndrome linked to COVID-19.

That's an increase of 30 cases in just 24 hours.

New York City reported 184,319 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday, 48,939 hospitalizations and a likely 20,237 deaths from the virus, Health Department data show.
