NEW YORK CITY — It appears Mayor Bill de Blasio finally followed the advice he's been giving New Yorkers for weeks and got tested for coronavirus.

One day after de Blasio called in sick from City Hall, the Mayor's office tweeted an image of the masked and capped mayor tilting back his head to receive the swab.

Patch asked the Mayor's office for information about where and when de Blasio was tested, and which test he took, but did not immediately receive a reply.

On Monday, de Blasio canceled his entire schedule after waking up and feeling "under the weather," said press secretary Freddi Goldstein.

"It doesn’t appear to be COVID-related," Goldstein later told the Post. "So no plans for a test right now."

De Blasio told reporters about a month ago he would get a COVID-19 test as had Gov. Andrew Cuomo, live during his daily press briefing.

But the mayor told reporters Tuesday morning he never did, even after joining protesters rallying against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death.

"I intend to get one because I've asked all New Yorkers to get one," de Blasio said.

De Blasio frequently urges New Yorkers to get tested for COVID-19, especially those who attended the protests, and did so again Tuesday when he announced New York City's testing capacity is predicted to reach 50,000 per day in early July.

"All New Yorkers now should get the test," he said. "It's available very widely. It's free. So, I'll follow my own guidance and I'll make sure to get one too."
