NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Bill de Blasio tested negative for novel coronavirus, his office announced Wednesday.

"The results are in & the mayor is negative for COVID-19," spokesperson Freddi Goldstein tweeted Thursday morning.

The results came in one day after de Blasio visited a testing center at New York City Health + Hospital Gouveneur on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Mayor's office told Patch.

De Blasio took a sick day on Monday because he was feeling "under the weather," but was back at City Hall on Tuesday.

"I feel fine today," the mayor said. "You know, I think I just had a 24-hour kind of thing."

De Blasio told reporters about a month ago he would get a COVID-19 test as had Gov. Andrew Cuomo, live during his daily press briefing.

But the mayor told reporters Tuesday morning he never did, even after joining protesters rallying against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death.

Said de Blasio, "I intend to get one because I've asked all New Yorkers to get one."
