NYC Pools, Beaches Will Open On Time For 2021 Season, Mayor Says

The city's beaches will open Memorial Day Weekend and pools will open in time for the end of school in June, the mayor confirmed Wednesday.

NEW YORK, NY — Surf's up, New Yorkers.

New York City's public beaches and outdoor pools will open on time for the 2021 season after facing a delayed and limited opening last year due to the coronavirus crisis, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.

Beaches will open on Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday, May 29, and outdoor pools across the city will open the day after the last day of school on Saturday, June 26, both with safety protocols, de Blasio said.

“Summer is right around the corner, and we’re gearing up for an on-time pool and beach season,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “These beautiful outdoor spaces mean so much to New Yorkers, especially after the year we’ve all had...Stay cool, stay safe and have fun!”

The opening includes all eight public beaches and 48 outdoor pools. Five of the city's pools are closed for reconstruction, according to the announcement.

Both beaches and pools will have regular swimming hours. On beaches, during the lifeguarded hours between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and for pools, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
