NEW YORK CITY — There were 12,305 new novel coronavirus cases in New York City as of Monday morning, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced.

That's up almost 2,000 from the 10,764 positive cases — with 99 fatalities — the Mayor's office reported Sunday night.

"We're doing more testing than anyone," said Cuomo."Our numbers will be higher on positives because we're doing more tests."

Cuomo awaits another plan from New York City lawmakers on Monday to strengthen government control over social distancing.

"My density control orders were not enough," Cuomo said.

In response to Mayor Bill de Blasio's assertion that the city would run out of medical supplies within 10 days without backup, Cuomo said New York City will receive 339,000 N-95 masks, 861,700 surgical masks, 353,500 gloves, 145,122 gowns and 197,085 face shields.

Cuomo couldn't say how long the new supplies would last.

"We can get masks to anyone who needs them [today]," said Cuomo. "I can't promise next week or the week after.

Cuomo also issued an executive order demanding state hospitals must increase capacity by 50 percent but urged them to try and double it.

New York State — which lawmakers are calling the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak — will need between 15,000 and 34,000 more ICU beds fitted with ventilators to meet the needs of the state, Cuomo said.

As of Monday, New York was testing 16,000 people per day, more per capita than in South Korea, which Cuomo called "the gold standard" of testing.

Cuomo said, "We've taken every action government can take."
