Subway Performance Best It's Been In 7 Years, According To MTA

Last month, subways ran with the best on-time performance in about seven years, MTA officials said Tuesday.

NEW YORK CITY — January was quite a ride for the MTA as subways ran with their best on-time performance in about seven years.

A little more than 83 percent of weekday subway trains ran on time last month, which is the highest per-month rate recorded since 2013, MTA officials announced Tuesday.

“We said we were going to improve and become more customer-focused, said MTA Chairman and CEO Pat Foye. "And we’re proving it month after month.”

MTA officials boasted that there were only 30,318 delayed trains and 29 major weekday delays, the fewest of any month since the MTA began keeping track in 2015.

As were 21 work days in January 2020, that breaks down to about 1.4 major delays per day.

“Customers’ trips are faster, more reliable, and less likely to be delayed,” said Sally Librera, MTA NYC Transit Senior Vice President for Subways.We are encouraged by our progress, but know we have more to do. ”

Officials also noted subway ridership reached 1.7 billion trips on the subway, or 1.1 percent increase from last year.
