NYC Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch: See When It Could Hit

First came the heat advisory. Now, the city faces a line of severe storms Tuesday till 10 p.m.

NEW YORK CITY — Looks like severe weather won't be giving New York City a break.

Clusters of strong thunderstorms could hit the city on Tuesday evening, forecasters warned.

The city and much of the surrounding area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

"The strongest storms will be capable of producing damaging winds
over 60 mph and torrential rainfall of over an inch," the watch states.

Radar showed clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms from western Massachusetts, across the Mid-Hudson Valley and to the southern tier of New York, the National Weather Service watch states.

The storms are expected to intensify and head southeast — as in New York City and Long Island — in the coming hours, the watch states. They'll move across the city from about 7 to 8:30 p.m.

"The strongest storms will be capable of producing damaging winds
over 60 mph and torrential rainfall of over an inch," the watch states.

The severe thunderstorm watch is in addition to a two-day heat advisory for the city.
