NEW YORK CITY — May weather keeps getting weirder in New York, where hail pelted the pavements Monday afternoon and spooked city dwellers across the five boroughs.

Storms are expected to bring thunder, 30 mph wind gusts and icy hail to New York City between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

"Showers with embedded thunderstorms producing small hail are developing and moving through parts of the area," the New York-based forecasters tweeted. "Be alert!"

This odd May weather comes after the city saw snow and temperatures so cold the MTA set up parked buses for homeless people to sleep safely.

New Yorkers, many of whom are stuck at home amid the novel coronavirus shutdown, took the opportunity to document the anomaly from their homes.
