NYC Weather: Isolated Tornado Could Hit City As Heat Advisory Extends
As a heat wave enters its eighth day ? and the heat index hits 97 degrees ?forecasters say severe thunderstorms could enter the picture.

NEW YORK CITY ? A sweltering heat wave's eighth day of broiling New York City could carry another weather threat: an isolated tornado amid severe thunderstorms.
Meteorologists extended a heat advisory ? that originally was to end during the weekend ? into Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
They also added the threat of isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms to a hazardous weather outlook. And the array of impacts the storms could carry isn't pretty.

"Damaging winds (main threat), large hail, isolated tornado, and flash flooding are possible," a National Weather Service update states.
Even if hail and a tornado don't hit in the afternoon and evening as predicted, New Yorkers likely are in store for another scorcher.

The heat index is expected to hit 97 degrees as high humidity blankets the area, according to the hazardous outlook.
But there are some silver linings: for one, the clouds and showers could hold back the maximum temperatures, according to a weather update.
Also, more importantly, cooler conditions are (finally) expected Tuesday, the forecast states.
Highs will hit 82 degrees Tuesday, which, while still hot, is a far cry from the 90-degree-plus temperatures the city saw for more than a week, according to the forecast.
