NYC Weather: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Faces City Again

It's the second severe thunderstorm watch facing the city in as many days — and not the only active weather advisory Wednesday.

NEW YORK CITY — A severe thunderstorm watch swept over New York City for the second time in as many days.

The watch issued Wednesday runs until 11 p.m. as storms are expected to hit the city, according to the National Weather Service.

"A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am," the forecast states. "Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain."

New York City has faced quite the week for weather advisories.

Rain and storms coincided with a severe thunderstorm watch Tuesday. A two-day heat advisory began that day and is slated to wrap up Wednesday at 8 p.m.

And a hazardous weather outlook and air quality alert were also in effect Wednesday.

More severe weather — and accompanying alerts — could be headed toward the city as Tropical Storm Elsa blows up the Atlantic coast later this week.

Wednesday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Southwest wind around 10 mph.

Wednesday Night
A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. South wind 6 to 8 mph becoming west in the evening.

Thursday
A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 73. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 81. Northeast wind around 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday Night
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71.

Saturday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 83.
