NYC Weather: Sunny Skies Friday Before Thunderstorms All Weekend

After a sunny Friday, a chance of thunderstorms is forecast all weekend in New York City.

NEW YORK, NY — Sunny skies with a high near 89 is forecast for Friday ahead of a chance of thunderstorms throughout the weekend, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service updated its hazardous weather alert to begin Saturday, with a slight risk of severe thunderstorms Saturday.

There is a chance of rain throughout the weekend though the hazardous weather possibility runs until Thursday, the weather service said. The main threat is damaging wind gusts and a possibility of large hail, the weather service said.

Friday: Sunny with a high near 89. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Friday night: Isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. 20 percent chance of precipitation.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. West wind 6 to 11 mph.

Saturday night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 71. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers between 9 a.m. and noon, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. 20 percent chance of precipitation.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 67.
