NYC Weather: Thunderstorms Drench The City With 'Torrential' Rain

Torrential rainfall could cause localized flooding, the National Weather Service said.

NEW YORK, NY — Thunderstorms and torrential rainfall blew across New York early Tuesday, with a high chance of rain the rest of the day, forecasters said.

National Weather Service forecasters said a strong thunderstorm was expected to hit New York, the weather service announced about 6:25 a.m. Tuesday.

Torrential rainfall could cause localized flooding, the weather service said. The weather service warned drivers not to drive through flooded roadways.

Temperatures will reach a high of 82. After 10 a.m., there's a 90 percent chance of continued showers and thunderstorms. South winds were about 8 miles per hour.

The warm and rainy morning will dry off later Tuesday night and into the rest of the week.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy with a low about 69. West winds about 6 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny with a high near 91. Northwest winds becoming west in the afternoon at 7 mph

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy with a low about 71. South winds 3 to 8 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny with a high near 89. West winds 5 to 7 mph.

Thursday night: Mostly clear with a low about 72.
