NYC Weather: 50 MPH Wind Gusts Could Down Trees, Knock Out Power
A wind advisory and warning for fire weather conditions will be in effect at noon Wednesday in New York City.
NEW YORK, NY — Wind could gust up to 49 miles-per-hour, making weather conditions favorable for fire spread in New York City Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
Though skies will be sunny with a high near 67, winds will blow 9 to 14 mph and increase to 21 to 26 mph by the afternoon, NWS said. Wind gusts could reach 49 miles-per-hour.
The NWS has issued a wind advisory from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and said the strong winds could blow down limbs, trees and power lines.

The strong winds could make driving difficult, particularly on elevated roads and bridges, according to the NWS.
The strong winds mixed with relative humidity as low as 18 percent will create conditions favorable for rapid fire spread, the NWS said.

A "red flag warning," which means expected critical fire weather conditions, will be in place 12 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday, per the NWS.
Winds will continue through tonight with gusts as high as 44 mph.
