Pokemon GO Fever Catches On in New York City

The new augmented reality game has users all over the city searching for Pokemon.

From Central Park to the darkest subway line, citizens all over New York City are trying to catch them all.

Pokemon GO, a new augmented reality video game for your smartphone, has users traversing the city looking for creatures. You use your phone's camera and GPS to locate the monsters in the real world.

And if you think staring at your phone and walking around the crowded streets of New York is dangerous, you're not alone. The MTA has already tweeted out a warning for users not to cross the yellow line when on subway tracks.

Elsewhere, players are ignoring the beauty of parks as they stare straight at their smartphone screens. Central Park in particular has been hit hard by the users, according to the Daily News. ("The server keeps crashing!" the Daily News reported one 15-year-old Queens player as shouting. We can only assume her fist was raised in the air as she said it.)

The creatures are especially prevalent in parks, hence the additional number of people wandering the city's biggest greenspace.

Police officers on the Upper East Side are getting in on the Pokemon action.

And Gothamist even detailed the fact that you can play Pokemon GO at the World Trade Center Memorial. Take that bit of news for what it is — maybe take a pass on playing there.

Even Wall Street isn't immune from Pokemon GO craziness. Nintendo shares were up just shy of seven points today, or 33.6 percent. At one point this morning the stock was up 10 points. No word on whether you can catch any Pokemon on the trading floor.
