Police shot a man they say got into a fight with officers, stole one of their guns and shot a bodega worker in the Bronx.

The chaos started after 1 a.m. when Efrain Guzman, 30, got into a fight at A&M Deli on East 198th Street. Police were flagged down by a civilian, who entered the store and got into a struggle with Guzman, police say. As they were physically removing Guzman from the store, he stole a service weapon from one of the officers. The other officer fired three shots, striking Guzman, but not before police say Guzman fired "numerous" shots from the officers' gun. One of those bullets struck and killed a 49-year-old bodega employee in a store across the street. Guzman had gotten into an argument with the employee before police were called to the scene, police said.

Guzman was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. Neither officer was injured.

Police say they have extensive video footage of the incident from the bodega where the incident happened, and that it corroborates their version of events.

The identity of the bodega employee is pending notification of his family.
