NEW YORK CITY — Presidents' Day is a day to honor George Washington and this nation's noble history by not going to work and sleeping late.

The official holiday falls on Monday, Feb. 17, and it means government buildings, libraries and post offices will be closed and public transit service will be scaled back.

Feb. 17 also marks the beginning of midwinter recess, the week-long break when all New York City public schools close.
