Pumpkin Patches Near NYC: Find The Best Spot

NEW YORK CITY — It's the last weekend before Halloween so, if you haven't snagged a pumpkin yet, now's the time to go picking.

Many pumpkin patches are open and just a short trip from the city. Here are a few of the most popular:

Queens

Queens County Farm Museum

Address: 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park

The Queens Farm will show off its fall colors all October long with its "Harvest Weekends," featuring hayrides, fresh apple cider, locally-made apple cider donuts and a pumpkin patch ripe for the picking. Visitors can stop by for free, though activities are priced separately. All proceeds support the care and operations of the farm.

The pumpkin patch will be open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from Oct. 3 through Oct. 25, as well as on Columbus Day.

Staten Island

Decker Farm, Staten Island

Address: 441 Clarke Avenue in Staten Island

Pumpkins are set out in a farm for kids to "pick" on the weekends Oct. 3 through Oct. 31. There is also a hayride, a small hay maze and vendors. The Old Home Day festival is held on Sunday, October 18. Timed-entry tickets are required for entry and can be purchased in advance beginning Friday, September 18 online.

Long Island

Brightwaters Farms

Address: 1624 Manatuck Boulevard in Bay Shore

Brightwaters, the oldest operating farm on the South Shore of Long Island, will kick off its annual Fall Harvest Festival on Oct. 3 and remain open to the public through Halloween.
The farm will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and on Columbus Day.

Elwood Pumpkin Farm

Address: 1500 E. Jericho Turnpike in Huntington

Elwood Pumpkin Farm's pumpkin patch opened on Sept. 19 and will stay open until supplies last. Visitors will also get to a corn maze and a wagon ride through the farm, though tickets are required and coronavirus-related guidelines on social distancing and mask-wearing apply.

The farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays or by appointment. Group times are available on weekdays by appointment.

Glover Farms

Address: 633 Victory Ave. in Brookhaven.

Glover Farms is open for pumpkin picking through the end of October from 2 to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Columbus Day.

Schmitt's Family Farm

Address: 26 Pinelawn Road in Melville

Schmitt's Family Farm is open every day through Halloween for its Annual Fall Festival. Guests can enjoy hayrides, farm animals, pony rides and a daytime corn maze, which is themed "Arabian Nights" this year, and a haunted mansion walk-through.

The farm is open from noon to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Columbus Day. Pumpkin picking is available daily.

Westchester

Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm

Address: 1335 White Hill Road, Yorktown Heights

The pumpkin patch is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays-Mondays, starting Sept. 26 through October.

Stuart's Fruit Farm

Address: 62 Granite Springs Road, Granite Springs

Apple picking reopened Labor Day weekend at Stuart's, while pre-picked pumpkins will be available at their farm stand. The farm is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through October.

Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard

130 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem

Online reservations are open on the Harvest Moon website for pumpkin patch visits through the end of October. The farm pledges that the patch will be "open, brimming with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes!"
