Today during the #SheIsEqual Summit at the PlayStation Theater, Reese Witherspoon shared her journey about starting her female-focused media company Pacific Standard. Founded in 2012, the actress has grown Pacific Standard into a major industry. Witherspoon most notably produced and starred in the critically acclaimed television show 'Big Little Lies' for HBO.

The #SheIsEqual Summit is part of this week's event series Global Citizen and is presented by P&G and ANA’s #SeeHer initiative. The Global Citizen Music Festival will take place tomorrow on Saturday 29th at 4 p.m. in Central Park.

"When I was in third grade, and the teacher went around the room and asked everybody what they wanted to be when they grow up, they said lawyers and doctors and so on. And I said I want to be the first female president of the United States of America!" says Reese.

"Because I thought that was possible! And when I grew older, I realized, wow, it's a different world! We tell girls all the time you can be anything you want to be but is that true? Do we really believe it?" she says.

"And as I got older and started building a career, I got frustrated by the ceilings that I hit. Instead of complaining I thought I can do something about it. And I started a company." Reese says.

2:16 p.m.
"I've done a lot of things for myself, and now it's time to do more for others and change the story for women in this world. And I started a company. I self-funded it, which was terrifying because I didn't know if it's going to do well and quite honestly for a couple of years it wasn't making any money." Reese says.

"But now it's incredible to change storytelling and to hire female directors and to hire writers with different backgrounds. And I feel enormously proud of the company and thrilled to wake up every morning with that kind of mission in my life. I hope I will leave my industry in a better place where I found it." she says.

Thank you, Reese!
