4:00 p.m.
I'm in the press line for the red carpet waiting to get in. It rains, and I don't have an umbrella.

I see Cynthia Erivo. She is a mood booster. Let's do this.

5:43 p.m.

I need this bag! Wayne Coyne and Katy Weaver.

5:46 p.m.

"This is important!" says Noma Dumezweni and shows her bracelet. It says 'The act for change project'.

5:47 p.m.

Marisa Jaret Winokur flies away.

5:49 p.m.

The hosts of the evening Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban.

6:26 p.m.

Tina Fey.

6:34 p.m.

Anna Wintour without sunglasses. She speeds the red carpet. I get her looking right into my lens. Good shot.

6:35 p.m.

Laurie Metcalf lost Roseanne but wins a Tony.

6:43 p.m.

Ashley Park poses for the photographers.

6:45 p.m.

Kerry Washington is Supergirl tonight.

6:52 p.m.

Bruce Springsteen waves hello.

6:56 p.m.

Tiffany Haddish and Michael Kors.

7:00 p.m.

One of the photogs shouts: "It's 7 pm! Let's all go home!" Not yet.

7:11 p.m.

Rachel Brosnahan completely blends into the background. I wonder if she is wearing her aunts' label tonight. It would be a beautiful remembrance to Kate Spade.

7:15 p.m.

A photographer warned me a few days ago: Amy Schumer is a pain on the carpet. She hates it.
I can't see any of this. She is sweet and easy to photograph.

7:21 p.m.

The roses on the backdrop are real. And they are delicious. The goat can't stop eating them. She is an actor on Broadway.

7:45 p.m.

We all head to the media room. A friendly gentleman with an umbrella escorts me through the rain. On arrival, I find chocolate Tony's in a 'Press Survival Kit'. At the end of the night, I'll have collected eight Tony's in my bag. That's unprecedented.

8:24 p.m.

"You are the first winner!"
"Yes! Thank god, now I can get drunk!" says Andrew Garfield.

9:03 p.m.

That's how winning feels! Lindsay Mendez is happy as can be.

10:07 p.m.

"How are you tonight?"
"Blind!" says Glenda Jackson and tries to withstand the flashes.

10:16 p.m.

My colleagues can't decide if I look more like Daryl Hannah or Busy Philips.
They settle on the younger Daryl and a skinnier Busy. I guess that's a good thing.

10:24 p.m.

"How are you feeling?"
"Reasonably glad," says David Yazbek.
"We don't want your glad!"
"You want my sweat and tears, right?"
"Yes!"

10:32 p.m.

"J.K. Rowling is here!" says one of the PR ladies.
"No, she is not, she is not even in this country!" say the photographers.

12:02 p.m.

"Katrrrrrrina!!" one of the photographers screams to get her attention. Katrina Lenk cracks up laughing. "We are animals!", says the photographer.
"You guys must be so tired. You have been here longer than me", she says.
"Can you sing us a lullaby, Katrina?",

And that's a wrap for the night.
