Study: NYC is 194th Safest City in New York, Still Better Than Buffalo

But fear not, you could be living in Buffalo.

New York City ranked No. 194 out of the 210 cities studied for safeness. Buffalo pulled up the rear at No. 210.

In fact, even though New York City was beaten by hundreds of small towns, it did fair better in comparison to some of the larger cities in the state. Watertown (197), Utica (198), Binghamton (201), Albany (205) Syracuse (206), Rochester (208) and the aforementioned Buffalo are among the notable cities which finished worse than NYC.

ValuePenguin based the study on 2014 FBI crime statistics and weighted violent crimes by 80 percent and property crimes at 20 percent then standardized it by 100,000 people.

If you're looking to escape the 194th safest city in New York, you have a few options nearby.

Lewisboro, in Westchester County, finished No. 1 on the list, while Malverne, in Nassau County on Long Island, finished No. 2. Elmira, Pleasantville and Kings Point rounded out the top 5.
