NEW YORK, NY — Not sure what to do with the kids now that school's out? Fear not! There are plenty of free events going on in your area that will keep your youngsters from morphing into couch potatoes before September.

Picture Book Stories in the Library


If you've got a little one at home who isn't quite ready to start reading on their own yet, head over to the St. Agnes Branch of the New York Public Library this summer. Picture Book Stories in the Library is designed for children ages 4-7 who enjoy having their favorite books brought to life. A library staff member reads aloud from a different colorful, eye-catching picture book each week; story suggestions are welcome and encouraged!

Father's Day Storytime at Barnes and Noble


Celebrate Father's Day with a fun-filled story at your neighborhood Barnes and Noble. Follow the adventures of four different father-child pairs as they spend the day racing around in shopping carts, popping bubble wrap and watching cartoons with their kids! No matter how grown up these dads might look, they still love to do silly stuff with their little ones. After the story, you can participate in a hands-on activity designed to help bring the book to life. Father's Day Storytime starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17.

Afternoon Storytime and Craft


If you've got more than one kid at home complaining of boredom, consider heading over to the Port Richmond Branch of the New York Public Library next Tuesday. Afternoon Storytime and Craft is an event designed for kids ages 3-11. Tune in for a classic children's tale brought to life by a library staff member, and participate in a collaborative craft project afterward that accompanies the story from that week. Craft materials are provided, and the event is free to attend.

Where: Port Richmond Branch, 75 Bennett St.

When: Tuesdays at 11 a.m.
