NEW YORK, NY — The best burger in New York City has been declared. At a charcoal-smoke filled grill-off on the Queens waterfront this week, some of the best patty chefs in the nation went head to head in Time Out's Battle of the Burger competition.

Here's who won, along with some other notable city burger joints deemed worth a try.

Harlem Shake

Where: West 124th Street at Malcolm X Boulevard
Details: This burger joint is known for its specialty patties, an exclusive creation from meat purveyor Pat LaFrieda. Its Hot Mess burger — a beef patty smothered with American cheese, onions, pickles, bacon relish, pickled cherry peppers and chipotle mayo — is one you may not want to miss, winning Judges’ Choice in Time Out's burger battle.

Peter McManus Cafe

Where: Seventh Avenue at West 19th Avenue
Details: This New York-style Irish pub dishes out some of the city’s most delectable and top-rated eats. If you’re looking for a beefy treat, order Pop Pop’s Top-Shelf Cheeseburger, a blend of brisket, short ribs and chuck that has all the tried-and-true accoutrements: aged cheddar, onions, pickles and “fancy” sauce on a brioche bun that won Consumer’s Choice in this week’s Battle of the Burger.
