Two New Yorkers Fatally Struck By Cars In One Day, Cops Say

Dolores Soho, 88, and Jose Contla, 26, both lost their lives Sunday after being struck by cars in city streets, police said.

NEW YORK CITY — An 88-year-old Queens woman and a young Brooklyn man were fatally struck by cars in New York City Sunday, according to police

A hit-and-run driver slammed into Jose Contla, 26, on 19th Avenue and 86th Street in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, about 7:25 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The black sedan had been speeding down 19th Avenue when it hit Contla as he walked next to his own car, said police.

Medics rushed Contla, of Sunset Park, to Maimonides Hospital where he later died, police said.

Hours later, A van turned left and slammed into Dolores Soho, 88, in the crosswalk on Bell Boulevard at 48th Avenue and in Bayside, Queens about 1:35 p.m., police said.

Soho, of Bayside, died at North Shore Manhasset Hospital, said police.

The 60-year-old man driving the van stayed at the scene, police said.
