NEW YORK, NY — A joyful Mayor Bill de Blasio had a simple message for New Yorkers after getting his coronavirus vaccine on Thursday — "That was easy."

"I'm amazed," the mayor said after Health Commissioner Dave Chokshi gave him the single-dose Johnson & Johnson shot at his daily press conference. "Really, you can barely feel it. I'm not joking."

The mayor's vaccination comes the day after public-facing government, nonprofit and building workers joined the list of New Yorkers eligible for the vaccine.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo got the shot on Wednesday in Harlem.

Both leaders urged New Yorkers not to be hesitant to sign up for the coronavirus vaccine, in particular the newer Johnson & Johnson version.

"I have total faith in the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, that's why it’s now in my arm," de Blasio said.

As of Thursday, more than 3 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine had been administered in New York City and more than 7 million across the state.

"It’s a great feeling when you know you’ve been vaccinated and you can protect your loved ones and your family, and your whole community," the mayor said.
