What The Hail: NYC Storm Dumps Icy Pellets Across City

"That was NUTS," one New Yorker tweeted. City dwellers posted a deluge of videos showing the Big Apple getting hit by a freak hail storm.

NEW YORK CITY — A freak hail storm pelted New Yorkers with icy pellets and sent them scrambling for cover — and to shoot the best video.

"That was NUTS," tweeted @JanimalTracks in response to a video showing a cat quizzically watching hail fall. "Our cat here was wildly alarmed, kept looking at us to DO SOMETHING."

Felines were the only ones confused by the hail.

The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm watch in anticipation of strong winds and rain, but hail was a late addition.

By 2 p.m. or so, New Yorkers across the city looked out their windows and saw pea-sized hail fall. Video provided Patch by Rebecca Gottlieb showed icy balls bounce off a patio in the Financial District.
