What's Open, Closed On Christmas 2019 In NYC
Find out who's shutting their doors for the holidays in the five boroughs.

NEW YORK — New York may be the city that never sleeps but it's also the city that never gives up an opportunity to celebrate.
So when Christmas rolls around Wednesday, schools will be closed, subways will be scaled back and certain stores will be closed.
To help you prepare for the holiday ahead, here's a round up of the schedules city agencies and retailers on Dec. 25.

Government Buildings And Banks
- City, state and federal offices will be closed on Christmas Day.
- Post offices will be closed. Regular mail will not be delivered.
- Libraries will be closed. Brooklyn Public Library locations will be open until 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
- Many banks will be open on Christmas Eve, but closed on Christmas Day as it's a federal holiday.
Schools

New York City public schools are closed for winter recess from Dec. 23 to Jan. 1.
Parking
- Alternate-side parking rules are suspended on Christmas Day.
Public Transportation
- Subways and buses will run on a Sunday schedule, according to the MTA.
- Staten Island Railway will run on a Saturday schedule.
- LIRR trains will run on a weekend schedule with off-peak fares all day.
- MetroNorth trains will run on a special holiday schedule with hourly service on most line segments, and regular weekend service on all branch lines.
Sanitation
- There will be no trash, recycling or organics pickup on Christmas Day.
- If Wednesday is your usual trash and organics pickup day, put your garbage out after 4 p.m. on Christmas Day for pickup the following day.
Stores
- Trader Joe's: Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
- Whole Foods: Stores in New York City will be closed on Christmas Day and will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
- Costco: Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and close at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve.
- Target: All stores will open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
