Here's a look at what will be open and closed for Independence Day.

NEW YORK, NY — Though July 4 falls on Sunday this year – with the world-famous Macy's fireworks display blasting off that night – most New Yorkers will be off work Monday, July 5, to mark the Independence Day holiday.

Here's a look at what will be open and closed on Monday as New Yorkers celebrate America's birthday.

Government Buildings

  • City, state and federal government buildings, including courts and post offices, are closed. New York City public schools got out for the summer last week.
  • Mail will not be delivered.
  • Most banks will be closed.
  • Libraries will be closed.

Transportation

  • New York City subways and buses will run on a Saturday schedule on Monday.

Parking

  • Alternate side parking rules will be suspended.

Trash pickup

  • Garbage, recycling and organics collection will not occur on July 5. There will also be no street cleaning.
  • Residents whose usual garbage or organics pickup day is Monday should put their trash out after 4 p.m.
