"Something about snow in New York that is magical," one Twitter user posted, presumably before the snow turned to gray slush.

NEW YORK CITY ? A winter storm delighted some New Yorkers who felt bereft of snow this season ? at least before the white stuff turned into gray sludge.

"Something about snow in New York that is magical," one Twitter user posted late Monday, along with photos of a snowy Times Square.

Snowfall varied wildly across the city as the storm hit late Monday, with The Bronx receiving the most at 5.6 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Less snow fell in places farther south, such as Central Park, which received 1.8 inches, the tallies show. LaGuardia Airport had 2.7 inches, while JFK Airport had 1.5 inches, according to the snow data.

Staten Island largely missed out ? a location in Willowbrook only had 0.6 inches, the data shows.

The winter storm came amid a largely snow-free winter and easily outpaced the half-inch of snow that fell in Central Park on Feb. 1 ? the first and last significant snowfall this season.
