NEW YORK CITY — Despite playing a shortened schedule with many months with no fans at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees' value increased by five percent in the past year, according to Forbes. The team is valued at $5.25 billion.

That ranks the Yankees top of Major League Baseball's 30 most valuable teams.

The Mets ranked sixth with a two percent growth in value. That franchise is worth $2.45 billion.

Although most teams lost revenue last year, Forbes said that did not prevent team values from increasing to an all-time-high average of $1.9 billion. That's a 3 percent increase over a year ago.

According to Forbes, large stock market increases have helped raise team values by creating potential wealth for future buyers and increasing the revenues at which many teams are appraised.
